Early Childhood Programs
The Pre-K 3 and 4 year old program is a full-day program that provides developmental play with Catholic faith formation. Students have instruction in physical education, art, music, and faith formation. Developmental play fosters inquiry and discovery learning that will enhance the emergent reading processes. Pre-K 3 and 4 year olds also participate in weekly liturgies with the whole school.
St. Jose Sanchez del Rio Catholic School has the PreK4SA grant that provides further instruction with technology centers using the Waterford web-based curriculum that is progress-monitored for emergent readers. The grant provides an outdoor garden that students plant and cultivate. Students also participate in a Water Safety program at the YMCA through a generous grant from the Archdiocese. Teachers receive enhanced professional development through the PK4SA grant.
Kindergarten is full of energy with age appropriate instruction for every child. Strong phonic skills are integrated in the curriculum to support emergent and early readers. Mathematical understanding is supported through hands-on learning, extensive use of manipulatives and age appropriate learning centers. Technology is incorporated throughout instruction that includes iPads and Chromebooks.
