"Help me to come closer to God myself."

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children ages 3 to 12. It originated in 1954 through the work Dr. Sofia Cavalletti, a Biblical scholar trained in Catholic theology, and Gianna Gobbi, a Montessori educator. A common Montessori quote is "Help me to do it by myself". The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has a similar quote, “Help me come closer to God by myself.” The child's spiritually is guided by the trained catechist much like the trained guide in the Montessori learning environment. All of the materials are hands on. The St. Kizito Primary students have been busy learning the parts of the altar, the liturgical colors by working with the chasubles and the parable of the Good Shepherd. They spontaneously sing the songs they are learning that go along with the work. This is a unique religious formation that they are fortunate enough to have access to in the primary studio. The St. Kizito students also attend all school masses, visit the chapel and learn how to pray the rosary where they can put their learning and faith into action!
